Kingfisher Airlines to operate nonstop flights between India and the US following acquisition of Airbus A340-500 aircraft

 

India's Kingfisher Airlines has signed a contract for the purchase of five Airbus A340-500 aircraft together with an option to acquire five more. Kingfisher Airlines is planning to operate direct flights between India and the U.S.

These Airbus A340-500 aircraft would be powered by Rolls Royce Trent 500 engines, according to an Airbus spokesperson.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chairman of Kingfisher Airlines, Mr Vijay Mallya, said "for the first time, we will be able to offer direct non-stop services between India and the US, and these aircraft will have a unique configuration giving passengers extra space and comfort on their long flights,."

 



Kingfisher Airlines currently operates 8 Airbus A-320, 4 Airbus A-319 on its domestic routes and is scheduled to take delivery of 30 further single aisle Airbus jets in the coming months.

Kingfisher Airlines has also placed firm orders for 5 Airbus A380, 5 Airbus A330 and 5 Airbus A350, all of which will be used on long haul international services.
